Indeed. I didn't say they're good at it. (See @Lesser Bull) Just that it's the idea.

Mainly I bring it up because they do the same domestically, and seem to be much better at domestic domination than geopolitics.

yes. But they're still incompetent.

you have to understand. We found this place basically Eurasian Landmass 20,000 BC.

And the geography and resources quite beat Eurasia [ports, river systems, arable land].

It's tough to fuck up. They're doing they're best.

It wasn't for gain.

It was for the reasons given at the time, including the reasons developed after we were in the shit.

BTW the situation while not great [it's not great in Iraq since the Mongols leveled it] was not into hopeless war until Bremer's patented power move of De-Baathification. This threw half a million dangerous people with ready access to plenty of munitions into the insurgency.

In fact a very seasoned US soldier compared it to invading Cumberland County NC [Ft. Bragg].

Now we are actually very good at battle. And breaking things. The issue comes up when they figure out that if they surrender nothing bad will happen. Unless they're turned over to their own. In which case something bad happens.

Now if you want to see how Progs work at unit officer level...here's a link.

Also why genocide in Afghanistan is still Justified .

I really have to think that the US is run by incompetents. Except that those incompetents keep blundering into effective strategies.

Letting China contract for Iraqi oil makes it more dependent on the international system of trade that the US dominates and will continue to dominate, makes them more dependent on the sea lanes, which the US dominates and will continue to dominate, and also gets China embroiled in the snakepit.

When you combine it with the fracking boom, it really does seem like Bismarck was right about the Deity's special objects of care.

Maybe I'm being too simplistic about it, but I don't think the US oil majors ended up with that much Mesopotamian action (a 16% cut of national production for Exxon, according to the table provided by Wikipedia). China seems to have done best out of the post war hydrocarbons carve up, without bleeding for it.
