Too bad for Obama that they invented 24 round the clock news on 6 different channels only in time for his presidency.

In all, I remain skeptical of the power of teh wild-wild interwebz to dilute the power of the Central Narrative. (30 years ago, William F. Buckley was on Public Broadcasting. There is nothing like that today. In the States at least.) My guess is that the (necessarily) low SNR drives more people toward perceived safety. Take away the fences and the children will huddle in the middle of the field and not play as recklessly.

Nitpick: Horror Autotoxicus is not a syndrome, it is what Paul Ehrlich used to describe the functioning of a “normal” human body. His reasoning went, the natural body is “horrified”about attacking itself, therefore any autoimmune dysfunction must be the effect of some disease. What you are describing in the context of the Cathedral eating itself is the absence of “Horror Autotoxicus.”

Hes the end of that generation that could still read [Orwell and Huxley my favorite leftists} that refers to the media as a tool of capitalism. You can still find waspafarians that parrot this likes its 1976.Of course they have seized the podiums and pulpits as a resut of seizing the ivy towers. But they are comfortable enough in double think that they needn’t correct the record in fact they routinely trot out the “corporate controlled media” trope when its serves them. I dont think this is leftism swallowing its tale except in the classic sense of it growing as it does so.They are not going to collapse they have freed themselves from the bounds of logic real money morality etc they float free any so called collapse will only be a crises to exploit. If the financial system crashed and they put tanks and drones on the street and restricted the internet.with their Utah server farm they would simply blame banksters and racists- nothing to see here.

I strongly agree. It always a problem (at least for me) of having too human view when you dealing with this question. Sure, the easiest way is available for correlationist, but it’s not entirely satisfactory.

To a degree, but Obama specifically called out broadcast TV news for the image of a world “falling apart”, so it’s not limited to guild defense against media decentralization.
