Chaos Patch (#78)
(Open thread + links)
Hard history. The new man (and also). Odd comparisons. The medium is the message. Pan-nationalism (and ideological genetics). The Norman hypothesis. Restoring virtue ethics. Why I am not a propertarianist (related). Against horrorism. Democracy in question. Meanings of immorality. Is updating imaginable? The weekly round.
The Fed-media disconnect. More cultural libertarians and stuff. Totalitolerance. Culture war escalation. Politeness works.
“Austrian-like perspectives on China are looking pretty good these days.” Plus, a China-slide primer. ZH on the yuan (1, 2). Stockman on local government debt. Some Chinese counter-spin. Investing in failure.
Nervous about the Norks. Italy’s 15-year flatline. Twitchy Pakistan. Silent in Bangkok. Grimness in Gaza.
Germany rolls over. European comedy hour. Image analysis. International fencing champions. Opportunities. Better still. The Australian way. What people are reading.
Trump fear and loathing watch (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).
Implications of contingency. “If you like your religion, you can keep your religion.”
Computers can’t solve communism. Closer to fusion gain? Exploding batteries. Dehumanized (and retro-chronic) Singularity. Complicated dark matter.
Dead ends. Genes from junk (see also), and synthetic bug bits. Smarter people (or not). Cellular skepticism. HBD blogging season.
Scales of conflict. Solitude or death. Trustless biology. Demand crunch. Talking tools.
What‘s your poison?

Don’t, it’s saddening as hell. 🙁
I might be leaving the UK for the Far East, but I still feel great melancoly over the friends, family, and Brits left behind.

The ‘What’s Your Poison?’ link is too cryptic for me…

Not smart. Just not entirely retarded.
If they were smart they would have looked ahead and realized they would need their interest groups to budge when this occurred, and started cajoling them 5+ years ago.
Further if their interest groups were smart they’d realize they need a strong economy to get the most rents, which sometimes means taking a cut on their cut or rejiggering their rent seeking. Instead, like all parasites, they use exactly as little brain as they need to avoid immediate death.

Worth checking out if only for his advice list on what to do if one is ever caught in one.

Posted on September 6th, 2015 at 6:44 pm | QuoteRe. the migrant crisis; looking beyond the shallow media smokescreen of political correctness, guilt-tripping and dead toddlers, a few questions:
1) Why Merkel’s sudden 180? (one has to wonder about international pressure—oh, what I would give to be a fly on the wall in some of these meetings/conference calls).
2) Does anyone have a realistic handle on the proportion of bona fide refugees?
3) Is there any truth to these supposed “eye-witness” accounts (see: Kamil Bulonis) of buses/cars being overturned and poop/feces fights breaking out at the Hungarian-Austrian border? Or is this just plain old agitation/shit-disturbing by certain bloggers?

“The horrors of a Trump presidency should not be lost on anyone.”
Oh they’re not. We find the rebound quite delicious. The Pendulum has been swinging right for years and the power of the majority not only denied representation but informed they’ve lost their country…that power was lying fallow and fallow is not power’s natural state. It was waiting for someone to grab the brass ring and Trump has.
And now that we’ve tasted leadership if Trump falls we’ll get another leader.
And soon we’ll taste revenge. Sooner or later.

I made a note to myself that I was going to recommend Robert Anton Wilson’s “Don’t Put a Rubber on your Willy” to you on the next Chaos Patch. I don’t remember the specifics, but it was in the context of deontology and libertarians’ philia towards Platonic ideals.
Is Platonophilia a word?
