It’s not really unfortunate. Their last game was also kickstarted. They failed to deliever a good product and made quite a few bad moves. People who donated to their last kickstarter had no interest in the new one and bad word of mouth killed it.

That reminds me of a half-concocted story idea…

Technology doesn’t go astray, it turns out exactly as planned. Machines provide everything for sentient life forms. They race across the stars, finding new planets, and settling down. They build your giant skyscrapers and provide meaningless office jobs for the local populace, paying them in the local currency (whether that’s just food, or what have you.) All local norms and cultural are destroyed and replaced. Effectively the entire Universe is turned into the Matrix but without the virtual abstraction layer or weird harvesting.

Naturally one of the more sentient life forms uses his two weeks vacation to travel to the Origin planet where he discovers no meaning at all. The end.

I’m thinking a good artistic representation of your ideology might be a kind of Godzilla that instead of destroying skyscrapers, he breaks small farmhouses and builds shitloads of skyscrapers in its place.

This huge monster would go on and on single-mindedly building Blade Runner cities everywhere without listening to humans or really reacting to anything at all.
