    Digesting.

Didn’t the Chinese survey of the US recently conclude our success is due to Christianity?

“We are quite certain of this.”

Wouldn’t this push them back into themselves, repeating the error of 1000 years ago which allowed Europe to conquer, colonize, exploit the New World?

What we want is a great synthesis based on the mainline of the life of our own culture, a great merger with the science and philosophy developed out of the Greek tradition and with the liberal politics developed by the West out of various causal conditions, but we do not want a great synthesis with Christianity. The relationship with Christianity is not a matter of synthesis but of “classifying the teachings.” We do not oppose Christianity. Western people’s faith and prayer is fine; that is their way, though it is not ours. But we can critically examine teachings, as Buddhists of the past did. We can distinguish what is the same and different in them, what is high or low, and what is perfect or imperfect.

In the West, the noumenal aspect of the one mind with two gates has not been developed well.; In Kant’s system, noumena has only a negative meaning.

I got the impression reading admin’s original Mou post, that there’s something horrifying to the Western mind lurking behind the second gate which Christianity cannot afford to let out. This East-West synthesis cannot necessarily work both ways. In Kant’s system, noumena can only have a negative meaning; it is deliberately left undeveloped. So Christianity quite possibly gave the West a short-term edge, but it may ultimately be a tortoise and hare thing..?

I think there’s a deep and complex answer, and a relatively shallow and accessible answer. The former demands more hard trekking into the metaphysics of the Dao than I can manage outside a (forthcoming) blog post. The latter, proposed by Mou Zongsan explicitly, is that a germinal unfolding of the Chinese tradition into technique was gathering pace in the late Ming, but then terminated by the Qing (Manchu) usurpation. As he notes, when making this claim, an even approximately techno-scientific development out of philosophical tradition, occurring in the mid-17th century, would not be decidedly retarded in relation to the pace of Western developments. As with any other counter-factual speculation, of course, it is hard to know how credible this lost alternative history really is.

Hezbollah succeeds and AQ fails because Hezb masters Inner Jihad prior to being handed a weapon. AQ feeds all demons of our nature, and washes away all sins under rubric of “Jihad.”

IMO. Although I doubt the former would gainsay me.

Is that what this man is doing, knowing themselves before they know others?

If one knows enough about oneself, it isn’t oneself that one is knowing about … (or something).

AQ has always been a tenuous internationalist/cia asset (you know the score, rube grunts, rootless cosmopolitans at the top, same deal with the muslim brotherhood), i would hardly consider them a genuine tradition.

Perhaps someday some version of me may be looking at the Chinese as looks at Hezb and AQ [very different things]. Bella Fortuna.

It is the opinion of the Cartography school [STRATFOR] that China is a Land Power, its’ interests are Asia. The Pentagon may agree, Air/Sea Battle is pointed at an enemy interested in denying us influence on land – China, Iran. This may dovetail with earlier petro-dollar approach.

As I would counsel us to withdraw to our Hemisphere – Mare Mundi, Nostri Mundi, Nostri Mare Amen – and then go UP into the Lure of the Void I’m actually not opposed to China the Land Empire. It’s all yours pal, save Oceania/Anglosphere. And our Hemisphere.

Without the Frontier America became instantly necrotic then Schizophrenic. Now it’s paranoid too…

You pretty much answered my questions to the extent there are answers in the link post.

Problem is do the Chinese actually know yet what they want?

To jump over to Nietzsche thread….if teretiary syphylls is like necrosis….then 20th century America is your paranoid schizophrenic Will To Power leading to Nihilism of the present.

So that’s what it looks like. No need to speculate further.
