Holy ****!
This is apparently a real thing (reformated for additional piety):
Our Chavez, who art in heaven, the Earth, the sea,
And we, delegates, hallowed be thy name.
Thy legacy come, so we can spread it to people here and elsewhere.
Give us this day light to guide us.
Lead us not into the temptation of capitalism;
Deliver us from the evil of oligarchy,
Like the crime of contraband,
Because ours is the homeland, peace, and life.
Forever and ever. Amen.
Viva Chavez!
We owe this contribution to the world’s storehouse of religious ecstasy to María Uribe, representative of Venezuela’s Socialist Party.
WE GOD NAO

Take a look at this specimen of street “art” in Caracas and see how right you are:

“Our Doc, who are in the National Palace, hallowed be thy name in the present and future generations. Thy will be done at Port-au-Prince as it is in the Provinces. Give us this day our new Haiti and never forgive the trespasses of the anti-patriots who spit every day on our country. Let them succumb to temptation, and under the weight of their venom, deliver them not from any evil”
Reputedly recited daily by all schoolchildren in Haiti during Papa Doc’s presidency. From his ‘Catechism of the Revolution’ (1968)

If the universe culminates into a giant joke and no one is around to laugh, is the joke still funny? Or is that the punchline.

Of course it’s legit! The prayer has been floating around since Chávez’s death, in several versions. This one was recently read out at the 3rd Congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), when the international media took notice of it. You can hear it – in Spanish, of course – here:

And here’s a half-minute propaganda spot of Nicolás Maduro’s electoral campaign of 2013. Also in Spanish, of course, but the images speak for themselves:
