Magical Thinking

The Left has finally understood who’s to blame for the collapse of Detroit, and it’s quite obvious when you think about it — white racists did it with their super-powerful evil thoughts:

As payback for the worldwide revolution symbolized by hot jazz, Smokey Robinson dancin’ to keep from cryin’ and Eminem trading verses with Rihanna, New Orleans and Detroit had to be punished. Specifically, they had to be isolated, impoverished and almost literally destroyed, so they could be held up as examples of what happens when black people are allowed to govern themselves.

Hang on, you can stop composing that all-caps comment – I don’t actually believe that what happened to Detroit and New Orleans resulted from anyone’s conscious plan. Real history is much more complicated than that. I do, however, think [sic] that narrative has some validity on a psychological level …

(Apparently the psychic racist death rays were first tried out on New Orleans, where they were “goosed along a bit by rising carbon emissions and rising temperatures,” creating a massive atmospheric disturbance.)

Goodbye sanity, your day is done. Hail madness and gathering night …

    Magical, maybe. But thinking?

Well, as that nice Mr. O’Hehir so limpidly explains, the evil racists are certainly thinking (fiendishly) — in a way that spontaneously destroys innocent, hard-working, and creative communities at a distance, just because they can. When its time to be rounded up into camps, there’s no point pretending not to understand why. With all those thought-massacres weighing on our souls, it will be a matter of simple justice. (What begins in Salem ends in Salem.)

But concentrating all those Badthoughts may make them reach a critical mass, which would cause radioactivity.

    Radioactivity is Bad.

“If you don’t like Eminem you’re killing black babies” — that’s the ‘argument’, isn’t it?

[… and don’t try muddying the logic by telling me that Eminem isn’t black, that would just be a sign of desperation.]

So let me see if I have this correctly. The “bad vibes” emanating from the right wing’s collective unconscious can aggregate and focus on specific targets and form a psychic super-weapon, a sort of Death Star hate laser. That’s freakin’ awesome! We’re like Satan’s Care Bears! Quickly, everyone join hands and think of Salon.

Yeah that’s right. I’m so powerful I destroy whole cities by accident.

Blacks are so weak they can’t destroy a city even on purpose. Nor, say, defend one.

    According to Salon.

I sat in a briefing in Kandahar in a room where there were flash cards spread all over the carpet like a family tree, or perhaps charting a mafia crime organization, but these cards had all the regional Afghan leaders’ names and ages written in sharpie marker. Extrapolating from the cards, a big wig from a foreign government intoned that it would take twenty years to change the culture in Afghanistan. His logic was that we had to wait for the current leaders to die.

If we apply that Afghan strategy to the West we are waiting too. Our wait is for the baby boomers to lose influence. They have everything backwards, their projects are failures because their ideas are false. At least in the USA, Vietnam caused a ton self-centered working class people to stay in college not out of a desire to learn, but to escape having to fight in the jungle. These dodgers subscribed to left politics because it justified their self-centered cowardliness. In the eyes of the left a piece of shit coward is somehow a noble thing. They are a “noble victim” or something else so disgustingly repulsive that my fingers curl when typing.

Nobles, of course, are the people who create order, but somehow the baby boomers have thought of nobility as a kind of effeminate person who is morally retarded. Now the people who think that way, these moral inversions walking among us that are disguised as human beings, are the ones running the schools and government.

    @Bill,

The children of the baby boomers are far more infected with left-contagions than even they are. I speak, myself, as one of them. The whole deworming process is extremely difficult and costly. If you wait for them to die, an even more dangerous and unhinged generation of leaders will take their place.

The leftward drift is inter-generational. Don’t despair. Just don’t place hope in patience as a force for order.

Sadly, for the Left nothing less than catastrophe is educational. Even catastrophe, as we’ve seen, can just serve as an opportunity to double-down on hoodoo.

Yet young people are always going to question authority and rebel against the previous generation to some extent. It’s a natural part of growing up.
Adult: “What are you rebelling against?”
    Youth: “What have you got?”
If what the adults have got happens to be conformity to dreary old leftism and the credo of the Cathedral, then that’s what there is for youth to rebel against.
Though whether such rebellion ever goes any deeper than the level of mere style and attitude is, of course, another matter.

    Steve Johnson Reply:

Unfortunately the Cathedral anticipates this and has an easy answer for it.

You get to be a rebel by being even more progressive than the Cathedral.

    John Hannon Reply:

Or maybe it’s simply that reaction is inherently too sober and “straight” for rebellious youth (although many young British Muslims are reckoned to have become less progressive then their parents).

    Handle Reply:

I’ve seen most of a whole generation of of Afghan leaders murdered and it didn’t help a bit. “20 years” is absurdly optimistic – try 80.

Maybe 80 years after WW3, which my Strauss-Howe Chronometer* tells me is due circa 2020.

(*You never actually own a Strauss-Howe; you simply take care of it for the next generation…)
