This isn’t really new or controversial. It’s really just confirmation of what was always the most plausible hypothesis: that the Ashkenazi are descended from Middle Eastern men who took local European women as wives and then formed a relatively endogamous community. This sort of gene flow has generally been the pattern between Europe and the Middle East anyway.

Either way this is a fascinating topic to me and I will be keeping tabs on the genetic information being presented. It seems to be a revitalized field of interest given that we now have great genetic technology and methodologies available these days. I’m keeping an open mind about it all.

Actually, Cochran says the latest research means there is no longer anything to be said about Koestler and the Khazar theory. It’s simply false – just look at the genes.
