Politics is the Mindkiller

… That’s probably Yudkowsky greatest line. (It’s the adaptation of a Dune quote.)

Somewhat ironically (see previous post), this is one of the most significant ways it’s playing out right now:

Literally none of that happened. [You’ll have to at least scan the damn thing for context.] Or at least there is zero evidence that it did. These are smart, rational people falling for a scam. Why? It’s in part because Twitter fosters this group-think and lack of critical thought — you just click a button and, with little effort, you’ve spread whatever you want people to believe — but it’s also because they’re so convinced of the righteousness of their cause (electing Clinton/defeating Trump) that they have cast all limits and constraints to the side, believing that any narrative or accusation or smear, no matter how false or conspiratorial, is justified in pursuit of it.

Naked consequentialist cynicism doesn’t make a good foundation for a church. That’s part of the reason why it’s coming down.

‘Church‘ and ‘gnon’ don’t seem right together.

    G. Eiríksson Reply:

It does seem right together, if you realize ‘church’ is from kyrion which means Lord. I dare say for our Lord Gnon.

Words tend to be wrongly contextualized. Actually, that´s a yuge problem.

If you read English from a couple of centuries back, you´ll get a far more intellectual understanding of the lingua. Mid-intellectual hyper-determinism re meaning of words gets taken for “he´s very smart.” nowadays. But anyone who´s really smart looks like an eccentric.

I think it´s ridiculous that Liberal and Progressive somehow are supposed to mean exclusively “Leftist” now. Obviously technology is the most progressive.

And some bitch forced pseudo-diversity is no progress, nor liberality.

▬ ”That a pagan like Clovis could ask Christ for help shows the adaptability of Germanic polytheism. In the polytheistic Germanic tradition, “if Odin failed, one absolutely could try it with Christ for once.” The Christian sense of religious exclusivism was unknown to the pagans. As a result, pagans could be pragmatic and almost utilitarian in their religious decisions. A good example for this are several Thor’s Hammers with engraved crosses, worn as amulets, that archaeologists have found in Scandinavia. Another exemplary event happened during Ansgar’s second stay in Birka, a pagan priest demanded from the locals that they not participate in the cult of the foreign Christian God. If they did not have enough gods yet, they should elevate one of their deceased kings, Erik, to be a god.

The baptism of Clovis I also highlights the sacral role of the Germanic king. A Germanic king was not only a political ruler, but also held the highest religious office for his people. He was seen as of divine descent, was the leader of the religious cult and was responsible for the fertility of the land and military victory.”

People nowadays think ‘he´s responsible for fertility’ means some hocus pocus. It doesn´t.

‘God’ used to refer to both a powerful man and the image of it.

Spirituality isn´t what people typically think it is.

It refers to flow, power, intelligence.

    Praise Kek, hail Gnon.

    Society of the Spectacle

Glenn Greenwald is full of shit.

Here’s what Greenwald said in July 2013 (as reported by Reuters) at around the time Snowden was having asylum problems:

GG: “Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had,” …

GG: “The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare.”

And with the help of billionaire Pierre Omidyar and “the new journalism enterprise” called The Intercept, Greenwald was going to leak ALL of this EXPLOSIVE information that “would bring the US government to its knees”, slowly and methodically, as soon as the information could be “redacted”. By Greenwald’s team of course.

A year later, Greenwald still hadn’t released anything of interest, but promised his BIGGEST story yet….

Glenn Greenwald as entertainer (May 2014)

GG: “I like to think of it as a fireworks show: You want to save your best for last. There’s a story that from the beginning I thought would be our biggest, and I’m saving that. The last one is the one where the sky is all covered in spectacular multicolored hues. This will be the finale, a big missing piece. Snowden knows about it and is excited about it.”

Well, almost two and a half years later, and we’re still waiting for the spectacular fireworks and multicolored hues story.

For over two years it’s been going on like this:

Greenwald announced blah blah blah, which contradicts his previous claim that blah blah blah. Meanwhile, The Intercept is redacting

blah blah blah, and consulting with the NSA on blah blah blah.

True to form, The Intercept has cherry-picked Cathedral-friendly blah blah blah. Blah blah compliance as defiance blah blah blah.

Oh, and just for the record, like Yudkowsky, Greenwald is Jewish.

    Just throwing it out there.

    Oh, this is wonderful:

“But while Donald Trump’s candidacy poses grave dangers, so does group-think righteousness, particularly when it engulfs those with the greatest influence. The problem is that none of this is going to vanish after the election. This election-year machine that has been constructed based on elite unity in support of Clinton — casually dismissing inconvenient facts as fraudulent to make them disappear, branding critics and adversaries as tools or agents of an Enemy Power bent on destroying America — is a powerful one. As is seen here, it is capable of implanting any narrative, no matter how false; demonizing any critic, no matter how baseless; and riling up people to believe they’re under attack.

For a long time, liberals heralded themselves as part of the “reality-based community” and derided conservatives as faith-based victims of “epistemic closure.” The dynamics seen here are anything but byproducts of reason.”

One more link to save. The best kind of evidence is evidence against interest. Greenwald, a while back, did a slate interview where he lambasted the “Cathedral”. Bookmarked that and all.

So, this allows one to use the argument from authority trope. You say “GG” is a “high-priest” and even he is saying the “cathedral” exists. Why would he lie? He is not a right-wing nut so…. Hmm?

    Nice link.

▬ Cosmologist Brian Swimme said in a 1997 interview: “I think that what E. O. Wilson is trying to suggest is that to be fully human, a person has to see that life has a heroic dimension… I think for the scientist, and for other people, it’s a question of, “Is the universe valuable? Is it sacred? Is it holy? Or is the human agenda all that matters?” I just don’t think we’re that stupid to continue in a way that continues to destroy. I’m hopeful that the Epic of Evolution will be yet another strategy in our culture that will lead our consciousness out of a very tight, human-centered materialism.”

    G. Eiríksson Reply:

So, this might not be a very compelling or popular sentiment, and I’m not sure how much I would vouch for it ultimately, but:
TLDR: maybe white people don’t oppose multiculturalism and racemixing more because whites are a rather mixed people in their origins (compared to, e.g., Northeast Asians) and they are just reliving this genetic programming.
Wait! I am NOT saying, “we all be mixed and mulatto and sheeeeeit so open the borders.”
Whites might be somewhat mixed (as are MOST populations [especially compared to East Asians!]), yet our mixture is good and only achieved subtly over the long term. Europe was a fragile ecosystem, out of the reaches of most of the world.
Clearly, we are mixed in origins, i.e., 1) Cro-Magnons from Middle East (swarthy, blue eyed), 2) Neolithic farmers from Middle East (dark haired, light skinned), 3) Indo-Europeans (tall, dark-haired, light-skinned, mixed white Steppe people, partly Middle Eastern, partly Siberian).
Of course, even throw in some Africans and more than a little East Asian.
Haplogroup R in its origin is linked to Haplogroup Q, which is Siberian/Native American.
Haplogroup I in its origin is linked to Haplogroup J, which is more Middle Eastern.
Haplogroup Nc1 (e.g., Finns) is linked to Haplogroup O, which is the premier East Asian haplogroup.
Hitler was of the literally least European haplogroup, which originated in Ethiopia.

Each European nation blended its genetic stock quite well. Compare this to, say, the Middle East, where the tribes remain antagonistic and are the biggest factor, not the nation.

The specter of the Hun/Mongol/Han has always haunted mankind. They destroyed Islamic civilization and ravaged Russia and colonized much of Eurasia.
The northeast Asian represents, according to many scientists, the farthest distance from the original Africans (e.g., based on dentition, neoteny, brain size). I know East Asians are known to have (some of) the highest Neanderthal admixture. I’m not saying I consider myself partly African or even closer to an African in any way. But the northeast Asian seems to play the role of the “parameter” of humanity in some way.
And they, the Han, believe this too. They like light European phenotypes, and much of our civilization, and our morals, but they are remarkably resilient and dogged in preserving their own ancient heritage.
White people do not have such direct continuity. We cannot really look at things in 2000 BC and really say much of what we were doing like the Chinese can.
Of course, Chinese people are obsessed with forcing the idea of unity and sameness. The northern Chinese clearly conquered the southern pre-Chinese, but they all try to LARP as the same Han now, and it works pretty well.
I wonder whether the fact that whites are a composite of, perhaps, three different peoples molded together (versus only 1 or 2 for northeast Asians) makes them somewhat hardwired to not be as against race-mixing.
(Of course, there have always been natural and cultural barriers in Europe and these have often been strictly enforced.)

Let’s just turn Africa into a place to vacation and grow lots of food.

    michael Reply:

yes and no its more likely the more recent mixing of fairly close groups mostly same ethnicity but not a cousin.and this leads to more trustful open cultures which sort of supports this openness non-biologically.In short I think whites get whiteness well enough on a biological level the problem is culturally we are not tribal. And we really are propositional, and thats a deadly combinations when exposed to tribal opportunists.

That’s religion not politics. Religion is the mindkiller.

Didn’t Yudkowsky use this line to avoid ‘political’ discussion on lesswrong? Stupidest thing I heard: We are dedicated to becoming rationalists, so let’s not discuss politics because it’s hard to be rational about politics.

Has anyone read Douglas Hofstadter? There was almost a mini-cult around him after his book where he waffled too long in a cutesy narrative style without saying much.

    Just like Yudkowsky.

    Just like…

    Erebus Reply:

Hofstadter is actually very good. It’s important to take into consideration the fact that he’s essentially a writer in the “popular science” genre; what he does is make hard topics like AI, machine logic, emergent consciousness, Gödel’s incompeteness theorem, Parfit’s musings on identity, etc., accessible to your average college undergrad. As such, his “cutsey,” meandering, repetitive narrative style is actually really clever. (And evidently very successful!)

To the extent Hofstadter relays original thoughts in his writing, they’re always interesting ones. His “consciousness cone” — where he straightforwardly declares that a being’s value is intrinsically tied to its capacity for intelligence — is obviously a black pill.

    Harold Reply:

He is good, also in my opinion, but overpraised. Same with Yudkowsky and Moldbug.

But, damnit, I resent this Jewish magic that doesn’t come naturally to me. Plus, I have that most un-Jewish aversion to doing things which I fear will make people think my own insight and contribution are greater than they are, and others think I am overpraised.
