Quote note (#238)

A Fernandez classic (concluding):

In seeking to become the masters, the Western political elite has become the slave of ideas they can’t even name, yet which oppress them like a dream weight, holding them down, making everything impossible. In an ending filled with irony, a Western Left that declared that nothing was out of bounds, which boasted it would achieve its goals by any means necessary, finds itself in a strait-jacket of its own device, unable to lift its own feet, quivering in fear before third-rate desert bandidos and a Russian thug.

Today, the Western heritage is being stripped by a dying left to pay for a lost wager for the soul of history. Yet, however hard it plunders the Western left is going down and the only question is how much else goes down with it. If the current crisis corresponds to the tremors that heralded the demise of the Soviet Union, it may only be a few preference cascades from interesting times.

Does democracy ever end any other way? The elite know the name of the idea that enslaves them: it is equality. That is how they get elected. People in groups like more equality and pacifism, a related concept. That is how good salesmen like the people who make it into the elite status echelon achieve their power. But now that the voters have chosen death, what to do next?

The problem is the Left still thinks democracy exists. It’s a dead issue… and, I mean that literally. Democracy is no more. Plutocracy is the state of the State, subservient to a world of clowns who don’t even wear makeup. While the actual work is going on silently within DARPA, and other machinic assemblages building the subtle systems that will replace us we pretend with ourselves that politics matters. What a sham…. more and more I’m reaffirming the total collapse of this fetid species who seem bound to outmoded thought forms, living in dreamworlds of pure idealism, fantasy lands of power without any support. Diagnosis: immediate and utter doom… what comes next? I think we know that already… maybe, the laughter can begin now… a little Nietzsche and Bataille go a long ways to clear the mind of false bullshit.

The rise of the agencies in the West reflects the post-1960s fact that if told the truth, the voters screw it up, especially concerning difficult truths. Thus it is concealed from them because as decision-makers, the voters are crazy. This then puts it in the hands of government, which is also crazy, except some parts of the military.

We would be better off without government, and simply having military leaders instead.

You give those overdressed bureaucrats far too much credit.

    “simply having military leaders instead”
More bureaucrats, just what we needed.

I’ve seen how the sausage of “military leadership” gets made, it’s bureaucratic bullshit all the way down.

it definitely feels like he is talking about communists Russia, not a West at present. either way it is rather realisation of the fact that nothing good is possible regardless of any brilliant ideas. that one central idea ‘holding them down’ from comitting suicide, becuase suicides is included in into “nothing is possible”.

Communist Russia and the modern West are two different levels of the same Leftist idea: the USA, for example, is 85% Leftist while the USSR was 90% Leftist.

True Leftism would be a commune of hippies ruled over by a blue-haired feminist version of Stalin, so no one has quite achieved that yet but they’re trying.
