The comments on the Moldbug piece are extremely interesting and basically constitute a second piece. The issue discussed is whether Moldbug is right to call the US a communist country, or whether he's mis-using the term. Either way, the discussion itself is very valuable. I've been mulling it for the past few days. I think both sides are right. This isn't textbook communism, but the notions of protected groups and banishment/excommunication/extreme punishment for insulting those groups is absolutely at work. And if you're NOT in a protected group ... why put up with the abuse?

I once put up some quotes from Animal Farm [Orwell] to a Prog on FB.

"All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".

She responded that she didn't know what I was talking about. She's in Law School of course.

"Big Brother". Our elites get that, it's ...short.

If you explained Orwell's chief target was intellectuals...

This is why I keep pointing to America Proper. The Arc of History indeed.

Our thinking is done by fools. Our fighting is BTW not. Despite how it appears. It was bad enough our thinking was done by cowards. Now they're fools who've lost even thought. Could any of them face Hamilton, Jefferson, even Paine for 30 seconds?

The verbosity is, I'm sure part of it, combined with the difficulty (i.e. actual thoughts happening) it operates as a laziness filter.

This piece struck me as a recapitulation (and welcome for that). However -- as is to be expected from the latest vital twig of the Neo-Puritan clade -- the sanctimony occasionally pokes through. (Does that work protective magic against progressives too?)

Think of the verbosity as a modern day occult initiation ritual for it serves the same purpose. One doesn't see Moldbuggery subject to a million straw-men attacks in a million forums, thank Gnon...

Huzzah! Moldbug turns his attention on the world again. The rumors are false, for now, that he had uploaded his brain into a computer programmed with a language of his own invention.

There are two rhetorical concepts here that leap out to me as particularly rich veins of inquiry:

1) The equation of protected group == privileged group

2) "nonempathic altruism" or "callous altruism"

The weakest point is the poorly formatted quotation from Plato at length. The fucker needs an editor, as has been apparent for half a decade. The Formalist Manifesto is downright direct in comparison.

BTW, I'm building a moldbug glossary with entries for exotic concepts (slow history, crocodile humor, the Cathedral, Whig History, Primary/Secondary property, etc.) and more mundane concepts where Moldbug extends our understanding (Idealism, Religion, etc. ). Feel free to mail me entries, with links to source material at rich dot as period crassus at gmail.

Gosh there might be some hope with Americans proper.

Given the arc of history, what reason is there to believe this?

Anything short of Auschwitz is preferable to them.

Oh I don't know, I'm sure they could get used to the accommodations.

Gosh there might be some hope with Americans proper.

There's really no one to surrender to, so buck up..

no there's no hope in a bunch of dweebs just because some more of them decided to hate their parents the way their parents hated their parents.

No they're not going to fight. Anything short of Auschwitz is preferable to them. Mind you being weak leads all monkeys to at least treat you like degraded slaves, because you are. Europeans may again reach the conclusion they reached with Darwin.

Now cheer up...really..America is like HUGE.
