Can we talk about Carlyle now? (I'm autistic and can't read the social situation.) Okay, I've read LATTER-DAY PAMPHLETS and "Shooting Niagara" now, and he's still not a reactionary. He just believes in that thing you guys call "Gnon" and thinks we should get right with it, that's all. His suggestions are (1) hire competent people, (2) a huge compulsory public works project, and (3) Chinese morning exercises. Well, in promoting #2 he does pretty much envision a new feudal system arising in response to the good public example, so that's sort of reactionary, I guess.
Oh, I just remembered something else that I was thinking about, because in writing the above paragraph it occurred to me that Carlyle never even noticed the possibility of feminism (the "maenads" in THE FRENCH REVOLUTION aren't proto-feminists), and this reminded me of my realization that an old fashioned monogamous social order can't be restored because the women would have to actually agree to resume their old role -- their subordination has to be voluntary -- and they're not going to agree to this. Obviously, then, the only viable strategy for sustaining a technological society is to house beta-experts in monastic hive-type settings where their sexual needs will be satisfied by State-funded sex-professionals and their cloned children will be raised by cloned Tibetan nannies.

To nitpick, the deep state is very real, unless you want to dismiss moldbug as a conspiracy theorist. Either you buy into the theory that bureaucrats control the state or you don't. There is plenty of incompetence, but that isn't particularly useful for making predictions, an exact taxonomy of incompetence and where it lives is necessary to make good predictions and thus good theories. We've got a pretty good handle on the economic incompetence, the one line version is people really thought the FED could create a Goldilocks economy. Yes the president has enormous decision making power in foreign policy, just like how the American electorate has enormous decision making power in political appointments. If our theories began and ended with calling American voters incompetent we would be blind.

To be fair, the entirety of your points are entirely valid. The incompetence is prevalent and universal. Security blankets should be shredded, but for the right reasons (the deep state underestimates the damage of foreign resentment and overestimates the security of the oil dollar, I think they're actually forced to use the FED's numbers and theories for their analyses). More importantly, thank you for taking aim at the Putin worshipers, they irritate me like a cat being rubbed the wrong way.

Herpes herpes, bo-berpes, banana, fana fo-ferpes -- her-pes.
Ow!
Hey: that spot on Gorbachev's head -- herpes, trust me!
Anybody here have herpes? Huh? Huh?
[No one answers]
You people are the worst audience I've ever seen.

Man: You're the worst comedian we've ever seen!

Krusty: Oh, great! Well, we'll just sit here silently for the next
ninety minutes.

Man: Fine with us.
