I've long thought that MM, Unamused, & Karl F. Boetel were all the same guy.

But Contemplationist assures us that he's an entirely different person.

(Sorry for the ambiguity, there)

Hmmm....

Memes can be killed by competing memes, or they can kill themselves (by evolving to be even more morbid and maladaptive). I'd like to think, perhaps a conceit, that #Nrx is working on both fronts.

The short game is #AAA: trying to get prog memes evolve faster to bring progressivism's inherent and embarrassing incoherency and maladaptivness to the bright light of day, whereupon it's legitimacy could crumble to dust in an instant.

The long game: creating an Oppositional Pole of Social Status in which basic assumptions, and even the resultant psychology, of progressivism are held in contempt. You thought it was cool to be prog, that it would make you rich, that it would get you laid. Ha ha, here's what all the REALLY COOL guys are doing... maybe you should be more like them, eh?

Seems more like windbaggery to me. Juxtapose the sophomoric musings of charlatans like Christopher Hitchins and Sam Harris with various 'secular' genocides and terrors with the plaintive rhetoric of the French anti-enlightenment. Problems of world history sorted? Leftists melt like the witch of the west?
A brief alternative take on this 'material': Taine's reference to the 'French national market' in Radish's last citation is indicative - perhaps 'secular' violence (French, Bolshevik, Maoist) is 'national market' violence? A violent path to 'catch up' in the face of capital-national competition, lashing out at patrimonial structures like the church that represent barriers to the cherished 'modernity' and at the ground level represent a threat to industrial and military re-organization for international competition?
Some nations (GB, Japan) manage to make this 'transition' relatively (stress on this word) non genocidally, other, later comers do not; the USA is exempted by its already non patrimonial status. Religion and ideology are epiphenomenal to this story.

I don't think so either. That's why I phrased the speculation as I did. But I definitely get the same "vibe" from reading both MM and Radish, and it's a vibe that I almost never get anywhere else.
