Your minor tragedy link vs. this.

In 1928, 40 kids of age 10-14 killed themselves. In 2006, 216 did. Population did not quintuple…moreover, this dramatic increase is just in this cohort. (From < 0.5 to ~1.5 per 100k) The overall rate has not gone up much. (Though buggered by advanced trauma medicine, even assuming reports aren't defrauded.)

Dudes 15-19 used to kill themselves slightly more often than chicks. Now it happens four times as often, roughly matching the adult ratio in 1928.

In 1928 these papers were written by adults.
"So few children in the United States commit suicide that juvenile suicides are not a problem." Astounding. I'm floored.

In 2006…well, spare yourself. I'm sure you can imagine. Don't do that either if you don't have to.
