Sentences (#46)

Anne Applebaum on our interesting times:

Right now, we are two or three bad elections away from the end of NATO, the end of the European Union and maybe the end of the liberal world order as we know it.

    “Good elections”, FTFY Anne.

    Still showing too much respect.

“Bad” == “My side loses.” Don’t let them pretend to have principles that happen to be wrong. Their only principle is ‘I get mine.’

Western unity, nuclear deterrence and standing armies gave us more than a half century of political stability. Shared economic space helped bring prosperity and freedom to Europe and North America alike. But these are things that we all take for granted, until they are gone.

many liberals would actually take fault with this, arguing against standing armies, globalization, and nuclear deterrence, and arguing that there isn’t peace in the world nor stability. Liberals and neocons can finally agree on something: they don;t like Trump

I don’t see Trump disrupting these things

There have been many revolutions and power transitions in the past. But I don’t think that many have had the opportunity to gluttonize upon the panic and horror of their enemies to quite the extent that we are increasingly able to. We’re going to be watching these people kvetch and squeal for years.

For a liberal democrat, she’s sure suspicious of the voters. Western elites are staunch democrats as long as the choice is between two of the “right people.” We’ve all seen the pieces by leftists advising Republicans how “stop Trump.”

Over and over: “Electorates are fickle.” And supposedly they are “in power” in the West. Applebaum obviously needs to read her Moldbug and do a rewrite.

    Erebus Reply:

“Elections are funny things, and electorates are fickle.” [x3]

…It isn’t that complicated — did she really need to repeat herself three times? Between that bizarre repetition, the article’s odd and nonsensical title, and “in my adult life, I cannot remember a moment as dramatic as this”, I’d recommend heavy doses of thorazine and valium, and an extended medical leave of absence for Ms. Applebaum. The poor lady seems truly unhinged. (How the hell did that article get past the editors, anyway? 50 years ago it would have been laughed out of journalism school, and that’s no exaggeration.)

  • Kgaard Says:

Anne should read the brouhaha over Land’s End and Gloria Steinem — especially the pushback from women. If the west is collapsing in its polite form, a good portion of the blame goes to thought leaders who advised high-IQ women against reproducing. We are now three generations into this process. Every day in the street people look dumber.

I’m imagining someone stabbing an inflatable doll over and over again “die, liberal world order, die!”
The thing is, unlike the 1930s, this time it is going to be done right. War among the ruins. The men of action to ensure Liberalism is extinguished, and the men of contemplation to ensure it can never be re-ignited.
