also, id like to point out that arguments concerning ‘white privilege’ are essentially other ways of saying white supremacy. lower castes lack the capacity to usurp or compete with higher castes, which must be convinced to willingly disenfranchise themselves.

I never meant to deny individuals their agency, black or white. People can harbor intentionally-formed racist thoughts toward those of other ethnicities, but this isn’t the kind of racism that’s discussed widespread in our society today. Racism, after the long process of slavery, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow, has become systematically institutionalized. It embeds itself in our language and in our media representations. Due to the historical dynamics of such a process, the systematization has been detrimental to blacks. No such racializing process has taken place against whites.

As much as we may want to repress the memory of racism and force it into the closet, convince ourselves it is no longer a problem, this is a fantasy. The only choice we have is to confront it and follow it through to the end. This will be a long, multigenerational process, and it’s very likely that some of our “folkways” will be changed because of it. But it’s the necessary thing to do if we want to overcome the conscience of racism.

In justice, it should be pointed out that the lady who wrote the article never suggested Santa Claus should be portrayed as a black man. She suggested he should be a penguin. “So let’s ditch Santa the old white man altogether, and embrace Penguin Claus—who will join the Easter Bunny in the pantheon of friendly, secular visitors from the animal kingdom who come to us as the representatives of ostensibly religious holidays. It’s time to hand over the reins to those deer and let the universally beloved waddling bird warm the hearts of children everywhere, regardless of the color of their skin..”

Although given that Santa is known to reside at the North Pole, one might have thought a polar bear would have been more appropriate …
