Quote note (#230)

Things are going to get a lot more ugly, before this is over. This is high amygdala, on all sides, from the conservatives who can’t take the delusions that are leading us to doom and failure, to the liberals who are panicking and breaking mentally, as reality becomes unavoidable.

As crazy as it is to contemplate, this is barely a smidgen into the apocalypse. We are still swimming in wealth compared to what is to come.

When the real apocalypse hits, I’d bet on mortality, and a fair amount of it.

Chaos Patch (#103)

(Open thread + links)

What is Neoreaction? (Snarl.) The bargain. The way out is forward. Death by Utopianism. Lifeboat ethics (also). Distributed blind conspiracy. Institutional capture. A failed fitness test. Social media as a model of collapse. Quite a bit more persuasion needed. New(ish) blog of the week. The weekly round.

Evil is conserved. Ingroups and outgroups. Zizek, rightist. Leftism for little children. Embrace the collapse (video). “Perhaps more dramatically than any other voting block, unmarried women — comprising as they do other liberal-voting groups including young women and women of color — lean left. Way left.” Could millennials turn to the dark side? The outgroup are conspiracy nuts. Post-racial morality (on steroids). The progressive Hitler.

Saudi oil economics, and military challenges (1, 2). Realism on Syria (plus some relevant nervousness). Jinnah’s dead dreams. Ruinous modernity. Xi Jinping tightens the media leash. Chinese migration sanity. Lessons from Venezuela. SA in crisis. Rolling migration catastrophe in Europe. The backlash is the real problem (Hollande agrees). Dissent spreads (1, 2). Camp of the Saints tours (1, 2). The meaning of Rotherham. Morbid delusions. Nazi cult tourist destination.

Brexit chatter heats up (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). Historical timeline here. The best-case outcome.

“The bottom line is simple. The great wave of commodity and industrial deflation now sweeping through the world economy is the bastard offspring of the debt binge that was enabled by the central banks over the last two decades. Yet they now pretend that this massive headwind to growth originated in some exogenous force that must be counted with even more of the same monetary intrusion.” Keynesian error. Cash suppression. Oil glut hurts pirates. Robot job-hunting.

Trumpenführer panic report (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), with additional fingerpointing. About that nuclear business. Uh oh (+), plus. Violent rhetoric. Why? The GOP is broken, seriously. Neocons flee. Game theory for the GOPe (note 1, 2). The torture. Trump the monster, miracle, and new Charlemagne (also bad for the Jews). The democratic comedy. Unhinged media (exhibit). Preference cascade. Revenge all around. The China angle. On to higher things? End of an era.

Twitter’s war against the right (plus, also). The troll tamers. The Ace strategy.

Garett Jones talks to Stefan Molyneux (video). Pygmies just became a little awkward. Mainstream HBD against ‘pathological altruism’. The canceled Derb speech. Diversity and its discontents. The case for blind hiring. Ferguson effect. Warped reality. Love is overrated. Only obeying orders. Updated oaths.

“Tech product cycles are mutually reinforcing interactions between platforms and applications. New platforms enable new applications, which in turn make the new platforms more valuable, creating a positive feedback loop. Smaller, offshoot tech cycles happen all the time, but every once in a while — historically, about every 10 to 15 years — major new cycles begin that completely reshape the computing landscape.” Latest steps in robotics. The real promise of VR. Dopaminergic headphones. Tech politics, subterfuge, and insecurity.

The cosmic web. A big rip timeframe. A Fermi Paradox for the multiverse. Serpentization on Enceladus. Secret sentience.

The XS antibody. Genocide spirals. Bad government. Conflict prompts. Against the commons. Following orders. Massive squalls of Alt-Right discussion almost everywhere, including this (+) and this from Brett Stevens, a loose trilogy from Free Northener (1, 2, 3), an Alfred Clark introduction, Citadel and SoBL commentary, a Roosh piece. Not sure whether enthusiasm for Second Wave Fascism counts (why not?). A defense of identitarianism. The weekly round.

Western resilience. Silent trade. All-devouring democracy. The 0.000001%. The Celtic Enlightenment. Dutch exceptionalism. Fragmented anxieties. Capitalism stole our ice age.

Parents > parenting. Delicate concerns about the public IQ ‘debate’ (via). Designer babies. Asperger‘s nazism. A brief tour of racial madness (1, 2, 3). Out of left field (comment). Drama awards. Schooled.

Liberal agony (1, 2). Mind-control issues at Facebook (1, 2, 3), Twitter (1, 2), and elsewhere (1, 2, 3).

Apocalypse corner (1, 2, 3, 4). Radioactive headline of the week. Shorting the near-future (relevant). Narrative sequence. Soros speaks. ZH does it best (1, 2, 3). “Unlike the Great Depression, social crisis will eventually eclipse economic crisis in the U.S. That is to say, our society today is so unequipped to deal with a financial collapse that the event will inevitably trigger cultural upheaval and violent internal conflict. In the 1930s, nearly 50% of the American population was rural. Farmers made up 21% of the labor force. Today, only 20% of the population is rural. Less than 2% work in farming and agriculture. That’s a rather dramatic shift from a more independent and knowledgeable land-utilizing society to a far more helpless and hapless consumer-based system.”

Causes and Consequences of the Protestant Reformation.

The Gate of Gnon. Diminishing returns. Affective heuristics. Prediction is hard. The Plato code. Satanic psy-ops. Weird Wild Wests. 13 Hours review.

If you believe in the prophecies and predictions of the Bible, Nostradamus, the Third Secret of Fatima, the visions of Edgar Cayce, and all of the current signs of an economic collapse, future nuclear war, WW3, a pandemic, an EMP power outage, a Yellowstone eruption, a potential asteroid collision, Nibiru, Planet X, Fukushima’s eventual meltdown and widespread global radiation, the coming pole shift and/or major earth changes, it is time to prepare!

Quote note (#168)

The level of apocalypticism to be found in scientific abstracts rarely reaches the Dark Enlightenment threshold, but there are always exceptions. Here’s Olav Albert Christophersen, on ‘Thematic Cluster: Focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder’, originally published in Microbial Ecology in Health & Disease (2012). Indicatively, the paper is subtitled ‘Should autism be considered a canary bird telling that Homo sapiens may be on its way to extinction?’ The full abstract:

There has been a dramatic enhancement of the reported incidence of autism in different parts of the world over the last 30 years. This can apparently not be explained only as a result of improved diagnosis and reporting, but may also reflect a real change. The causes of this change are unknown, but if we shall follow T.C. Chamberlin’s principle of multiple working hypotheses, we need to take into consideration the possibility that it partly may reflect an enhancement of the average frequency of responsible alleles in large populations. If this hypothesis is correct, it means that the average germline mutation rate must now be much higher in the populations concerned, compared with the natural mutation rate in hominid ancestors before the agricultural and industrial revolutions. This is compatible with the high prevalence of impaired human semen quality in several countries and also with what is known about high levels of total exposure to several different unnatural chemical mutagens, plus some natural ones at unnaturally high levels. Moreover, dietary deficiency conditions that may lead to enhancement of mutation rates are also very widespread, affecting billions of people. However, the natural mutation rate in hominids has been found to be so high that there is apparently no tolerance for further enhancement of the germline mutation rate before the Eigen error threshold will be exceeded and our species will go extinct because of mutational meltdown. This threat, if real, should be considered far more serious than any disease causing the death only of individual patients. It should therefore be considered the first and highest priority of the best biomedical scientists in the world, of research-funding agencies and of all medical doctors to try to stop the express train carrying all humankind as passengers on board before it arrives at the end station of our civilization. [XS emphasis]

(Mutational load is, of course, genomic entropy — and the kind of ‘Social Darwinian’ or eugenicist mechanisms that might dissipate it are all, today, strictly unthinkable.)
