Frankenstein

Frankentein00

This comment thread makes it vividly clear what’s at stake in the Cathedral vs. Alt-Right grudge match. It’s Frankenstein against his monster.

(No way China doesn’t end up inheriting everything, on current Occidental degeneration trends.)

Moron bites (#12)

More of an ‘Evil bites’ this time — but it’s a doozy:

(To colonials and others who may not be paying attention, this is a prospective UK Prime Minister tweeting support for murderous full-communism.)

A scarcely less impressionistic, but vastly less depraved corrective can be seen here.

Moron bites (#9)

Richard Dawkins collides with the Zeitgeist. A comment thread mash-up:

Why does he do it? I don’t get it. … Dawkins doesn’t realize he’s been infected by a mind-virus. … He’s just a petty little shitlord who pretends to have standards and principles, but actually has none. … “Meltdown” doesn’t seem to cover it anymore. … I’m embarrassed to have any of Dawkins books on my shelf now. … Sweet zombie Jesus. … If anyone cared to bother, it would make a fun blog post to compare and contrast the wit & wisdom of Richard Dawkins and James Watson. I don’t know if they ever met, but they have so much in common … Dawkins is now the Trump of atheism … I bought “Ancestors Tale” after I got over the fremdschämen “Dear Muslima” has caused, but Dawkins says something embarassing since then on such a regular basis, that I might not be able to read that book ever. I used to enjoy his science books, but now I cannot get over a bad taste in my mouth whenever I see his name. … I’ve got his books and videos – I think I’ll give them away … So Dawkins now behaves like Marine Le Pen? … When Dawkins was at the height of his fame as an anti-religious campaigner, he was quite unfairly portrayed by many religious commentators as an angry agitator who raged away without showing any real insight into the subject. And now, here we are. … either Richard Dawkins has a layperson’s knowledge of evolution, all the way back when he was publishing scientific papers on the subject, or he never thought critically about the subject because he wanted to believe it. He wanted those sexist results to be true, and had no problems shutting out people who tried to set him straight. … So PZ, think you might remove Richard Dawkins links from the sidebar here? … He’s now siding with actual fascists. Totes rational the man. …

Science!

Quote note (#213)

Bolivarian Socialism has made a truly crucial contribution to Marxist-Leninist-Guevara-Penn-Chávez Thought — the idea of food-line rationing:

Venezuela’s government has tried to deny economic reality with price and currency controls. The idea was that it could stop inflation without having to stop printing money by telling businesses what they were allowed to charge, and then giving them dollars on cheap enough terms that they could actually afford to sell at those prices. The problem with that idea is that it’s not profitable for unsubsidized companies to stock their shelves, and not profitable enough for subsidized ones to do so either when they can just sell their dollars in the black market instead of using them to import things. That’s left Venezuela’s supermarkets without enough food, its breweries without enough hops to make beer, and its factories without enough pulp to produce toilet paper. The only thing Venezuela is well-supplied with are lines.

Although the government has even started rationing those, kicking people out of line based on the last digit of their national ID card.

The genius of that. You think anyone should just be allowed to stand in a food-line, bourgeois imperialism-style? The Revolution has moved beyond such reactionary ideas.

(The Gnon-bliss XS receives from this regime is hard to communicate without wandering into tentacle-porn.)

Moron bites (#7)

This one is self-explanatory. It’s quite possibly the most idiotic remark I’ve ever seen.

(Since no one could actually believe this, it might be better classified as an incompetent lie.)

Vaguely Smart

Don Surber recalls a classic masterpiece of liberal good-think fluff (from 2008):

Historian Michael Beschloss: Yeah. Even aside from the fact of electing the first African American President and whatever one’s partisan views this is a guy whose IQ is off the charts — I mean you cannot say that he is anything but a very serious and capable leader and — you know — you and I have talked about this for years…
Imus: Well. What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: … our system doesn’t allow those people to become President, those people meaning people THAT smart and THAT capable
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Pardon?
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Uh. I would say it’s probably — he’s probably the smartest guy ever to become President.
Imus: That’s not what I asked you. I asked you what his IQ was.
Historian Michael Beschloss: You know that I don’t know and I’d have to find someone with more expertise…
Imus: You don’t know.

Thanks, as always, for telling us (hazily) what we’re supposed to think.

Quote note (#210)

Noah Smith wants everyone to know that his head has exploded:

The right’s way of talking – and thinking – about race is just totally poisonous. The conservative movement has been recruiting working-class whites and Southern whites for decades by using anti-black dog-whistles, and by promoting the idea that government spending equals white-to-black racial redistribution. More recently, the Trump campaign has ridden – and possibly spurred – a wave of anti-immigrant xenophobia. In the online social science discussion, racial theorists like Steve Sailer have gained an inordinately huge amount of currency among right-leaning intellectuals. Then there are the Twitter Nazis and the Reddit Nazis (and let us speak no more of them). So it is basically now impossible to talk to people on the right about race in a rational way.

So people on the left are the only ones I can talk to. …

“Rational.”

Moron bites (#6)

The XS patented ‘not-getting-it’ meter just exploded:

“NRx” is shorthand for “neoreactionary,” a person who subscribes to the neoreaction, or “Dark Enlightenment,” movement. This school is far from unified, but subscribes to a loose collection of far-right ideologies: a rejection of “political correctness,” a yearning for religious and political authoritarianism, a return to medieval gender roles, and the open practice of white supremacy. […] 8chan, a message board that rose to prominence after some users dismissed 4chan as too censoring, loves NRx. Many 8channers subscribe to the NRx theory that the world is on the verge of a massive societal collapse, one that should be actively encouraged. The end game for these users is race war, revolution, and the installation of a leader like Donald Trump, whose picture appears at the bottom of every 8chan thread.

(Weirdly, the internal link goes to one of the outside analyses least conducive to this delirious incomprehension. Where are the Mouthbreathing Machiavellis when they’d really fit in?)
