Twitter cuts (#26)

This is here for the AoS links.

I’ve been meaning to do a house-keeping post on commenting, and these remarks say most of what’s necessary. It obviously applies mostly to people who are the least likely to read it, so it’s necessary to be emphatic about the extreme appreciation I have for the core commentariat here, as well as many irregular commentators who make the blog what it is. That said, I’ve been acutely aware of my tendency to excessive liberalism in blog management recently, and also killing / gibbeting more abusive idiots than usual. That’s not going to stop, and will quite probably intensify.

As Ace remarks:

Your problems are your problems, and your problems alone; your emotional problems and angry outbursts will no longer be acceptable blog fodder here. […] If this blog is too fast for you — if people making arguments you might disagree with is just too painful for your mind to take — well, there’s lots of other blogs on the web; I suggest you try one that’s more your speed. […] We here are pretty good commenters, and pretty good at discussion and at repartee; we’re not going to be dragged down to a sub-moron level simply because that’s the only level at which a sub-moron feels he can participate … […] These are the rules, and they will be enforced. Adjust your behavior accordingly.

Disneyland with the death penalty” is the administrative model.

While I get Ace’s point, and he can obviously do what he wants with his own comments section, I’ve never understood why he thinks he’s got high-quality commenters. Even at its best, it’s largely full of (as the TRS guys would say) basic-bitch prole-tier Republican barracking. Plus, the sheer volume of comments combined with the lack of threading makes it impossible to have a serious conversation anyway.

    Moar Space pleeze….

Humanity’s problems remain the same or worse as in 1973 when Nixon stopped our Moon program to subsidize Humanity’s problems.

Moar Space..it’s hopeful and literally the way up.

This place will end up at *best* the post 1945 Med. At best.

it seems reasonable (no doubt, seriously) option, but in fact it dictated by limitations of blog software. everybody knows prohibition never works. if people want to went out make a place for them to do that, call it a PIT, everything go there. If serious people not interested they will never go there. If you use forum engine it can easy be done by make separate section and appointing mod for that section. But blogs engine is antics, nothing can be tailored here. you even cant bune someone by IP, and have to spend a lot valuable time for manual deleting stupid posts.

    Mr. Archenemy Reply:

You can absolutely ban someone by IP, by using the Comment Blacklist form field at Settings -> Discussion.

Or for more banning power, you could always get a plugin, like this one.

    SVErshov Reply:

Oh, I never seen blogs admins panel. My point is that most people who just come here they just bound to sound stupid. that does not means they are no sincere and if given a time will not learn, banning is not a best solution here. it is public blog after all.

    michael Reply:

I have to say ” its a public blog after all” really annoys me.Not only because it isn’t someone built it owns it and spend an enormous amount of time on it. But because it just smacks of the liberal thinking that their should be no standards public or private that standards fascistic.

Also, bad selection effects kick in early (and aren’t always easily visible).

    SVErshov Reply:

if it is visible to public, ir is public, even if it is anoys you. if it is for members only then public cannot read it, it is private. obviously running blogs requred managments, my point is if some of such mangement can be delegated to other members (mods) or to software, it will more efficient. many bloggers becoming popularand see number of stupid readers increase and then stop blogging. one thing whem you have to delet 40-50 posts per week and another when it become 1000 posts. some valnurabilty is here.

While I heartily endorse ruthless despotism in the moderation of comment sections, is AoS really the person you want to be citing as your motivation? I was under the impression that he’s a giant cuck, which would suggest that he’s going to be banning dissent due to his own cowardice and inability to address logical argumentation rather than for any good reason.

I should note that I have never been to AoS, never read a post there or any of its comments, but someone said he was being super faggy – like Gavin McInnes level faggy – over the “cuckservative” thing. I have no idea if that’s true or not. Please correct me if I’ve received a mistaken impression.

    [Reply]

    vxxc2014 Reply:

    It’s an incorrect impression.

    He’s no cuck.

Also he’s not professional either so he isn’t getting paid to be a cuck….which is usually the case.

He’s not neoreactionary either but probably can be considered Darkly Enlightened including about the GOP.

    Lesser Bull Reply:

Yeah, he was super f. At the same time, the problem in his comments wasn’t alt-righters, it was girl-ninny hysterical prole alt-righters.

    [Reply]

    Max Reply:

Gotcha. That actually makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t thought about it at the time, but the source from which I got the “AoS = cuck” info could fairly be described as a “prole alt-righter.” I wouldn’t say “girl-ninny hysterical” but could certainly see why someone less sympathetic to them would. Thanks for the clarification.

So I’m currently performing at the Ed Fringe, which is admittedly far too progressive for my liking, though I like to think the show I’m involved in attracts the right sort of crowd. Part of our show on Friday nights involves a bit of audience interaction/freeplay, so we posted your comments Max, opposite the OP. The almost unanimous (hence derelict popular) opinion was that you were a try-hard English (they were quite convinced of that – thought they actually more commonly used the term Sassenach) Wanker. Pressed a bit further for their reasons, they clearly displayed a decent understanding of trolling, and simply didn’t rise to your type of amateur shit at all, really.

The focus group after the show threw up the following: ‘derivative’ and ‘juvenile’. They quite liked admin though (somewhat confusingly).

You might want to read the comments on the piece you linked before suggesting that I read it myself. =P The second comment is me. The Mitrailleuse is the “prole alt-righter” from whom I got my information. If the description of Ace given there is accurate, then I think that calling him a cuck is fair.

    Peter A. Taylor Reply:

I only occasionally read Ace. He seems inconsistent. “Cuckservative” may be fair. “Super faggy” seems over the top.

Guys like Gavin and Ace are a gateway drug one day youre wearing a fedora being ironically racist and reading those guys and the next thing you know youre drunk and beating up some Guatemalan , http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/brooklyn-thugs-attack-hispanic-man-deride-immigrant-article-1.2297619 and popping red pills like theyre M&Ms
Your objection is like those Viking guys riding wolves its all or nothing its very few people who have a road to Damascus, most conversions happen slowly so slowly in retrospect its even hard to say where one turned.
I might add people find this and other blogs without reading the cannon first, and while I get we dont want more bodies for the sake of head count it might be better instead of slamming people for legacy democratic tendencies (or whatever) instead steer them the place you think explains their error.

“Whats with no enemies to the right, we give up already?”

You appear to be misunderstanding the phrase as “no enemies ON the right,” somewhat akin to “Reagan’s 11th Commandment” (thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican), but that isn’t what the phrase means. “No enemies TO the right” means that no one who is MORE right-wing than you can be an enemy, and no one who is LESS right-wing than you can be a friend; at best, they can be a useful idiot for your cause.

    Rasputin Reply:

@Max: do you hold much sway with the trichotomy ie dividing the right along techno-commercial, theonomist and White nationalist lines? And if so, how do you see this In relation to the dictum of “no enemies to the right”?

    Max Reply:

I don’t find the trichotomy to be a very accurate or useful model of reality. I’m a linearist, not a planarist.

    admin Reply:

Planarism is a rough draft for splitting. Linearism involves far more concordance over basic values than is ever imaginable, so practically it implies killing a whole bunch of people.

The Trike is a mutual-hatred management tool. (“Don’t worry, if it all works out we won’t be seeing a lot of each other anyway.”)

    Chris B Reply:

The trike allows (or rather encourages) entryism and parsitism. It implicitly declares NRx to be nothing more than a battle ground for three political traditions and in doing so legitimises them. At best it is idiotic, at worst a cynical diversion from the body of work MM cites in Unqualified.

    [Reply]

    admin Reply:

Each tendency of the Trike would rather see the world burn than subordinate its priorities to those of the others.

    Chris B Reply:

Back to politics as wish again here. Establish your “wishes” then come along and negotiate? This borders on hallucinagenic.

Also, if these wishes are. Being brought in and established as non-removable, then that is pretty naked entryism. “Nice reaction you got there, let fix it for you with this mainstream nonsense libertarianism/ socialism/whatever”

    [Reply]

    admin Reply:

“Wishes” have nothing to do with it.
Intelligence optimization is either self-reinforcing, or not.
History is either providential, or not.
Racial determination is either upstream of culture, or not.
Who cares what anyone ‘wishes’ about any of these questions? They are all rooted in substantial cosmic propositions, and merit engagement in those terms (or not).

There are worse commenters than haters/conspiracy theorists and such.

From time to time I read Stross’s blog. He’s a good writer, but a coward who cannot abide not being liked (or is that business sense?). So he’s very PC.

That blog has a commenter whose entire shtick consists of posting stuff that is hard to parse, hard to evaluate for truthfulness and never dull enough to dismiss as more sycophantic drivel, which Stross’s blog amply attracts.

It’s something like the “Book” from Anathem. Finely crafted nonsense one can’t dismiss, which produces nothing but doubt and headscratching.

Mockery alas takes you only so far — up to the point where you get a pro troll who is content with derailing the discussion over and over and doesn’t care beyond that. At some point, it seems, every popular blog needs to start cleaning out the sludge comments and ban those undeserving of the privilege to comment. (This should be natural to NRx blogs in particular.)
