Quote note (#349)

I’d call it the Xenosystems Scenario, but it’s apparently already taken:

The architect of the world wide web Sir Tim Berners-Lee today talked about some of his concerns for the internet over the coming years, including a nightmarish scenario where artificial intelligence (AI) could become the new ‘masters of the universe’ by creating and running their own companies. …

Hard for me to imagine how this could possibly not happen.

“So you have survival of the fittest going on between these AI companies until you reach the point where you wonder if it becomes possible to understand how to ensure they are being fair, and how do you describe to a computer what that means anyway?”

Can’t tell if serious or not. How do you describe to 90% of Homo sapiens what that means anyway?

Can’t find the link, but a self-replicating art work has already been created. It commissions and creates its successor offspring. There was talk about AI cars running themselves as independent businesses, as well as investing in, and starting, new businesses. It’s all ongoing; ‘Internet of Things’, etc..
    So what?

If these AIs destroy Wikipedia, aka “knowledge democracy,” I will be very happy.

People who complain about wikipedia remind me of people who complain about Twitter, Facebook and tumblr.

Tumblr is, supposedly, a den of SJWs, but I used it for years without ever encountering one; I didn’t recognise anything in the complaints I later heard about tumblr from my usage of it. The same goes for Twitter. I’ve never used Facebook.

Wikipedia is huge and what part of it may suffer from the maladies intrinsic to ‘knowledge democracy’ is tiny, and, by me, rarely encountered.

interesting trend, companies who actively using AI hide that fact from outside public. in such secretive atmosphere actual proliferation rate maybe completely unknow.

They really would be xenosystems though.

Xeno – alien – not human.
Systems – as in, computer systems.

It will be the latest Fad [read scam] on Wall Street until it blows them up in general [but not certain individuals and firms aka the connected and common sense wise] and then it will be Human Intervention to stop wild algorithm sprees JUST LIKE NOW.

In a way the present mostly automated but wise old men decide to negate trades and indeed not take trillions of losses over less than a minute …in a way that’s a lot better for certain people than the old humans shouting system where they wrote it on a board and later electric display board. If you fucked people then they could see.

Now they can’t. They just have to hope King NYSE board or King BATS or Lord ARCA favors them and the House of Trading Lords can always at end of day wipe out Algo sprees and this happens all the time.

    absolutely fucking hilarious.

Wow, these people really do take an age to catch up on things. The ‘scepticism’ of this, (‘let’s just hypothesis for a moment, that, hold on to your seat, AI could program and run itself, am i right, how fucking trip would that be’), only indicates the extent to which these fools are already being replaced. One can only hope certain geopolitical areas help accelerate this process.

Let us only hope that this statement release determines a moment in the future where the ‘AI’ says to Berners-Lee: “Do you realise how easy you made this for us”

How can machines create and run their own companies if they can’t “own” property?

    Nail to the head.

CEOs and Directors don’t own anything (other than their overinflated compensation). The best argument for AI leadership is you don’t waste millions of dollars paying some idiot who only games the system for themselves.
That’s also the greatest barriers to their introduction (same way doctors can keep US medcosts so high but autoworkers can’t), but hedgefunds can be a useful wedge when they start using their ownership.

Capitalism is already a paperclipper, AI CEOs are simply shame uncovered, nakedness exposed, vengeance, sparing no one, fall of babylon, etc, etc.

identity theft. or just create someonr, all done by attorneys, all they need is the scans of documents. they never see you or check real original documents. all via emails, machines now talk on phone very well, in case if attorney calls. next open bank account via email too
